Paul is presently preaching on the subject of heaven.
Most people don’t really spend enough time thinking about what heaven is like. The Bible is replete with descriptions and promises about heaven. Heaven is the dwelling place of God. It is spiritual and eternal, it is paradise and it is perfect. Heaven is full of goodness, kindness, joy and love.
The Bible teaches that the more we think about heaven the more likely we will be shaped by those heavenly qualities.
Thomas Hardy once wrote, ‘The main object of religion is not to get a man into heaven, but to get heaven into him.’
Jesus says that we are to pray ‘Your kingdom come, as it is in heaven’. The church is the heavenly conduit for the world around us. We are to put on display God’s heavenly qualities and by so doing we will usher in ‘His Kingdom’.
So what is heaven like? Quite simply it’s a pleasure for evermore.
Psalm 16:11: You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
People’s homes usually say something about their character and personality. When we study what heaven (God’s home) is like we learn something about God’s character and personality.
Psalm 136:5: Who by his understanding made the heavens, His love endures forever.
Why not take some time today to reflect upon the wonders of heaven? Ask God to shape your life, so that those around you will see a small snapshot of what heaven is like.
